A Season of Stitch, Storytelling & Spotlight
The past couple of months have been an absolute whirlwind. I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the highlights with you!
First, my textile artwork Unguarded Moment was awarded First Prize at the Golden Textures exhibition — an acquisitive prize no less — and is now part of the Central Goldfields Art Gallery’s in Maryborough, Vic. permanent collection. What an honor! This little echidna walking its solitary path has not only found a home but has also brought attention to the quiet struggle of our lesser-known endangered species. I hope viewers continue to reflect on what’s being lost in the shadows.
Not long after, She Matters made her way to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham — my first time sending work there in quite a few years. To my surprise (and delight!), she didn’t just show up — she won not one, but two prizes! It’s exciting, validating, and a little surreal. Even more importantly, She Matters highlights the vulnerability of the Mountain Gorilla — a powerful reminder that these majestic creatures need our voices stitched into every story we tell.
These wins are heartening, but it’s the impact behind the work that fuels me — drawing attention to conservation through art. Every stitch, bits of scrap fabric, thread, and layered texture is part of a bigger message.
Thank you for following along — and here’s to the powerful mix of art, advocacy, and a whole lot of heart.
